2023’s MNCFPA Cottage Food Conference
Keynote Speaker – Matt Rosen
Here is his story… After serving 23 years in the military, Matt retired in 2015 and began working in the “corporate” world. After a few years of doing the typical 9 to 5, and thanks to the MN Cottage Food Law, Matt began selling shortbread cookies as a side hustle in April 2018. He began selling cookies at his day job, via his website and farmers markets during the summer months. Fast forward to July 2020, the business had grown in popularity enough that Matt decided to step away from my corporate job and turn his side hustle into a full-time business. He recently moved into a commercial kitchen which has allowed Matt to sell cookies to coffee shops, cafes, and grocery stores. All the while maintaining his cottage food registration which has allowed Matt to continue to sell locally to individuals and businesses.
Additional sessions for Thursday and Friday include – food safety, water activity, MDA updates, AURI food scientist, MFMA updates and how product of the farm and cfps intersect, bookkeeping basics, 2023 legislative initiatives for cottage foods, driving sales & marketing, copy right law, how to write a business plan, where to start when starting-up in a commercial location, and a social hour (and door prize give aways).
